The Oak House is Here
We are thrilled to announce that we have purchased our third house, a two-flat home in Harvey, IL: the Oak House!
This space makes five units from which we can serve our community through transformational and dignified housing. Thank you to everyone that has donated, served at an event, attended an event, shared our work with your friends, family, and work.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead!
Phase 1: Foundation & Demo (Expected 1-2 Month Process)
This home is over 100 years old, and we want to make sure it is sure to last another 100. We will be updating the old primary load bearing beam with a new steel one. We will be adding concrete footers and additional supports as well to ensure the home is supported and safe moving forward.
Phase 2: Modernizing Utilities (Expected 1 Month Process)
This step includes stripping the upstairs unit down to the studs, and some materials that aren’t in use today removed. During this process we will be bringing the electrical and plumbing up to current standards to ensure the home is efficient and safe.
Phase 3: Restoration (Expected 2-3 Month Process)
This one is the most fun because we can invite so many of you into the process here! This will include painting, installing toilets, faucets, flooring, some gardening, and assembling and moving in furniture.
Hope is the foundation of all that we do, and that’s where we’re started with the oak house rehab project.
We get requests for housing every week, single mothers looking for solution to losing housing at the end of the month, men and women stepping out of rehabilitation programs and re-entry programs looking for that next step in their journey. Our homes have been that place for neighbors in need to find that second chance, and the Oak House only expands the possibilities of the families and lives we can help through these programs.

Filling the Gap NFP is a faith-based restorative organization dedicated to providing dignified and transformational housing to people in need.
Every person deserves to have a place they call home. We’re filling the housing gap in the South Suburbs of Chicago by working with trusted referral agencies who have candidates ready to take the next step in their journey.
We believe by providing transformational and dignified housing that residents will be able to commit time to working on personal and professional goals while a part of the program.
